Tallahassee Man Killed protecting Girlfriend from Ex-Husband

TALLAHASSEE — A man was shot and killed attempting to protect his girlfriend from her ex-husband.

WCTV is reporting the incident occurred at the Lakes of San Marcos Apartments off of Woodville Highway, just south of downtown Tallahassee early Sunday morning.

Investigators say Sheldon Rogers, the ex-husband, showed up at his ex-wife’s apartment and waited in his vehicle for her and her boyfriend, Moise Joseph, to arrive home. As the pair got out of their car, Rogers approached them and pointed a gun at the woman. Joseph then tackled Rogers, allowing the woman to run to safety.

According to the WCTV report, the arrest affidavit stated Joseph was able to wrest the firearm away from Rogers, but dropped it as he attempted to flee. Rogers then retrieved the gun and began shooting at Joseph as Joseph came back towards him. Rogers told investigators he did not know if Joseph was attempting to tackle him or get in his car to flee but says he was filled with “rage” and shot him out of anger, not fear of bodily harm.

Joseph collapsed and Rogers pulled out a knife and then stabbed Joseph an unknown number of times. Rogers then attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle but was later apprehended by authorities.

Rogers is being held at the Leon County Jail on charges of premeditated murder and domestic aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
