Georgia State Patrol Busy during Holiday Weekend

VALDOSTA — The Georgia State Patrol stayed very active on area highways over the Labor Day weekend with almost 500 traffic stops alone.

During the 2015 Labor Day Holiday period, which covered from Friday September 4th to Monday September 7th, Post 31 Troopers conducted 497 vehicle stops. These vehicle stops resulted in 324 citations and 312 warnings. The citations included, 212 speeding citations, 46 seatbelt violations, 10 child restraint violations, 4 DUI arrests and 3 drug arrests.

Post 31 Troopers also investigated 15 crashes during the four day period resulting in 9 injuries and no fatalities. Of the 15 crashes investigated, 2 resulted from an impaired drivers, 1 was speed related and 1 was related to a fatigued driver. Heavy afternoon storms contributed to approximately half of the crashes during this period.

Statewide, 14 fatalities were reported over the Labor Day Holiday Period.
