Falcons Julio Jones earns first NFC Offensive Player of the Week honor

| September 17, 2015

ATLANTA — Believe it or not, Julio Jones was named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

Yes, Jones’ nine-catch, 141-yard, two-touchdown performance in Monday night’s 26-24 win against the Philadelphia Eagles earned the Atlanta Falcons receiver the honor on Wednesday. Although he’s had some pretty spectacular performances in the past, this was the first time in five seasons Jones received the weekly award.

Jones joined Jerry Rice (1994) and Anquan Boldin (2013) as the only receivers to be named offensive player of the week to open the season. That’s pretty good company.

We’ll see if Jones builds off his hot start on Sunday at the New York Giants.

And by the way, Jones did win the NFC Offensive Rookie of the Month for December/January 2011.
