Deer causes Fatal Accident on Old Clyattville Road

VALDOSTA — Georgia State Patrol reports a fatal accident in Lowndes County.

Wednesday morning,  GSP Trooper Hawk Parrish was dispatched to a fatal crash on Old Clyattville Road just south of Ousley Road in Lowndes County.

Reports state a 2012 Subaru Legacy, driven by Syreeta Necole Thomas, 40 of Valdosta, was traveling northbound on Old Clyattville Road.  A 1997 Nissan pickup, driven by Clayton Lee Chandler, 49 of Hahira, was traveling south on Old Clyattville Road.

A deer entered the roadway from the east shoulder with Thomas striking the deer with the front end of her vehicle. After impact, the deer became airborne and struck the windshield of Chandler’s vehicle. The deer exited the vehicle through the rear glass. Chandler was pronounced dead on scene from injuries sustained from the crash. No injuries were reported from Thomas.

Seatbelts were in use in both vehicles and airbags did deploy in Chandler’s vehicle. The roadway was shut down for approximately two hours. No charges will be filed in this collision.
