TIFTON — Tifton firefighters rescued an elderly woman from a house fire early Saturday morning.

About 5:30 a.m. Tifton Fire Department responded to a house fire at 29 Hallie Henderson Rd.

Captain Tim Cooper of Tifton Fire Department reported that Firefighter Jacob Gill and Firefighter Dustin Sanders pulled Cheryl Ellerbe from the burning home.

Ellerbe was taken to the hospital. Officials say that she was receiving oxygen before she was transported but was talking and seemed to be okay.

The fire was mostly in the kitchen and was contained quickly.

Captain Cooper said that the damage to the home was only slight to moderate.

Cooper also said that it was a fast knockdown and a group effort between the Tifton Fire Department and the Tift County Volunteers.
