WGTC Certfied Pharmacy Techs

VALDOSTA — Have you ever considered how much training the person at your local drug store counting your medication pills and filling your prescriptions goes through? Seven graduates in the Pharmacy Technology Diploma program at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College recently successfully passed the National Certification Exam for Pharmacy Technicians. Wiregrass is extremely proud of these students and wishes them successful careers. All graduated from Wiregrass recently at Summer Semester graduation. Two of the graduates have secured jobs while the others are in the hiring process.

Frank Barnett, WGTC Pharmacy Technology Program Coordinator, shared the following about what this certification means: “Passing the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board and completing a program accredited by ASHP/ACPE demonstrates — to employers in our area and beyond — the quality of education the graduates have received. For a technician to obtain certification is a major milestone for their future in the pharmacy career field. Obtaining this important certification is evidence to the patients and employer that they are competent to render patient care and the certification is recognized nationwide.”

The Pharmacy program at Wiregrass has been accredited by the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP). The program at Wiregrass prepares students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes for employment within a pharmacy.
