Teens Charged in Death of Chiles High Student

TALLAHASSEE — Charges have been filed in the vehicular death of Chiles High student Ansley Rayborn, 14 of Tallahassee.



WCTV is reporting that the State Attorney’s Office for the Third Judicial Circuit has charged Hunter Goodwin, 16, with third degree felony murder, vehicular homicide and grand theft of a motor vehicle.

Cody Elkins, also 16, has been charged with manslaughter and tampering with evidence, according to the State Attorney’s Office.

Rayborn was killed when she was ejected from the Chevy Tahoe in which she was riding with Elkins, Goodwin and several others.  The truck crashed into a ditch on Old Chemonie Road in Leon County.

Deputies investigating the accident found liquor bottles and drug paraphernalia around the site. They also said in the report that the 15-year-old driver was observed by witnesses drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana late into the night prior to the crash.

There were also 4 other occupants of the vehicle were transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital the morning of the accident, meaning 7 teens were in the vehicle when it crashed.

Rayborn’s death has led to more discussion among community leaders about the dangers of teen drinking and drug use in Tallahassee.
