VALDOSTA –The Lowndes County Republican Party will host VSU Interim President Dr. Cecil Staton at its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 18, at Austin’s Cattle Company.

Staton, who took over the reins of Valdosta State University on July 1, will key note the meeting and provide an overview of his mission and the future of VSU at a time of declining enrollment and budgetary challenges.

“We’re honored to have Dr. Staton come share his views with us,” said GOP County Chairman Scott Smith. “It’s not often men and women of his caliber find themselves at the helm of a major regional university. Clearly the university and our community will benefit from his experience and leadership.”

Aside from his 10-year stint in the Georgia Legislature as a GOP state senator, Staton has extensive entrepreneurial experience as the founder and leader of three communications companies.

Staton holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Furman University, two masters degrees from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC, and a doctor of philosophy degree from University of Oxford in England.

Prior to his appointment by USG Chancellor Hank Huckaby to the VSU position, Staton served as vice chancellor for Extended Education for the University System of Georgia.

The public is invited. Those sharing the values and principles of the Republican Party are encouraged to attend.

Austin’s is located at 2101 W Hill Ave, Valdosta, Georgia at the Kinderlou Inn (I-75 and US 84). Optional dinner and social begins at 6pm. The meeting starts at 7pm and is scheduled to conclude at 8pm.
