Former UGA Hoops Player Morris arrested Again

| August 18, 2015

ATHENS — Former University of Georgia basketball player Brandon Rasheed Morris was arrested Thursday for allegedly falsely reporting he lost his wallet and someone subsequently accessed his bank account.

For allegedly making the false report of a crime, he violated the probation he was on for being convicted earlier this year on a felony charge of possession with intent to distribute marijuana. The marijuana arrest got him kicked off the UGA basketball team in July 2014.

Morris, 22, started 45 games at forward over two seasons for Georgia before being dismissed after his arrest. Originally from Lithonia, Morris transferred to California State-Bakersfield and sat out last season but is no longer with the program, according to the school.

He was arrested because he parked his car in a motorcycle parking space in downtown Athens. An Athens-Clarke County police officer who observed the violation smelled a strong odor of green marijuana wafting from the vehicle, in which Morris was sitting in the driver’s seat. Police said when searching Morris’ car they found 18 grams of high-grade marijuana in a book bag, along with a digital scale that had marijuana residue on it.

He initially pleaded not guilty to the felony charge, telling the Athens Banner-Herald the pot and scale were not his.

Morris later pleaded guilty and received probation as part of a negotiated agreement with the District Attorney’s Office. Under terms of his probation, Morris must provide verification of evaluation and or treatment for substance abuse. His alleged false report of a crime constitutes a felony probation violation.
