Fire destroys Worth County Home

SYLVESTER — A fire tore through a Worth County home early Sunday morning, though no one was at home at the time.

Reports from WALB state that early Sunday, around 12:20 a.m., the Worth County Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched to a house fire at 108 Silver Lake Circle.

Battalion Chief Ray Salter stated in the report that the fire was located in the laundry room of the home and that the cause of the fire is unknown.

Salter said the structure was destroyed by the fire and smoke damage.  The family was not home when firefighters arrived on the scene.

The fire was contained within the first 10 minutes of the department arriving and the overhaul took about 3 hours, according to the report.

Salter said that 3 engines and 15 personnel were dispatched to the scene and that it took 2,500 gallons of water and 10 gallons of foam to contain the fire.
