VALDOSTA – It’s been a long wait, but the Valdosta State Blazer football team returned to the field on Monday for the opening practice session of the 2015 preseason schedule.

With a host of coaching changes, along with a large group of new players, the Blazers will spend the first few days of practice acclimating themselves with one another. Nevertheless, Head Coach David Dean was happy with what he saw on the busy first day.

“From an effort standpoint today, I was pleased,” said Dean. “It looks like we’re in good shape, and I’d like to see how that carries over to day two. With so many new players and so many new coaches, it’s going to be a little chaotic. But, I think after day two and three, I expect everything to calm down and run very smoothly.”

Valdosta State continues their preseason practice schedule tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m., with more practices scheduled throughout the remainder of the week before the student-athletes begin classes on August 17th. The team’s opening game is slated for Saturday, September 5, in Albany, Ga. against the Golden Rams of Albany State. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
