Young Child, 2-years old, Victim of Attempted Kidnapping

VALDOSTA — Valdosta Police are reporting an attempted kidnapping occurred on Saturday.

Police reports state that Saturday afternoon, a two year old child was taken from the front porch of her home reportedly by a person not known to the child or mother. The child was on the front porch playing when the mother stepped inside to check on another child sleeping inside the residence.

The mother heard her two-year old scream and ran back to the porch. When she returned, she said she saw an unknown white male holding her daughter by the arm and attempting to leave the front porch with the child.

The mother ran to her daughter and grabbed her daughter by the arm and leg and pulled her daughter away from the offender. She immediately ran inside and called police. The child was not harmed. The offender ran away on foot in a northwesterly direction from the residence.

The male, described in the report as a caucasian, 5’9” to 5’10” in height weighing 160 to 170 lbs with brown hair and what appeared to be a scar on the left side of his face. He was wearing a peach or pink colored shirt, blue jeans, and gray and white running shoes.

VPD Officers, Detectives, and a K-9 unit responded to the scene. Police conducted a canvas of the surrounding area.

Since the incident, a lookout for the offender was transmitted to other law enforcement agencies and the area has been extra-patrolled. The department has worked with State Probation reviewing sex offenders in the local area to attempt to locate the offender.

The police department urges all parents, caretakers, and babysitters to maintain close supervision of small children and do not let them play outdoors without a responsible person watching them.
