Train Hits and Kills Pedestrian in Waycross

WAYCROSS — A unnamed pedestrian was killed when she was struck by a train early Sunday morning in Waycross.

According to reports in the Florida Times Union, Waycross Police Chief Tony Tanner stated a female pedestrian was killed early Sunday morning when she was struck by a train in downtown Waycross.

Police responded about 2:45 a.m. Sunday to a report of a train striking a pedestrian in the area of Francis Street and Glenmore Avenue, according to Tanner.

The death occurred in an area where there are a number of railway junctions, just north of CSX Transportation’s Waycross yards.

Tanner did not provide the victim’s age and said he was withholding the name until her next of kin are notified.

The body will to be sent to Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab as part of the ongoing investigation.
