VALDOSTA — LeAnne McCall has been named interim principal of Lowndes High School to succeed Jay Floyd, who is anticipating a new position in Hart County.

McCall currently serves as Director of Curriculum 6-12 for Lowndes County Schools. Wes Taylor, Lowndes County School Superintendent, stated he is very confident of McCall’s leadership ability. He noted in a statement provided to the press that she has a working knowledge of Lowndes High School as she formerly served as an Assistant Principal.

The release noted McCall is very excited about this opportunity. She noted that she looks forward to working with the dedicated administrative and leadership teams and the entire faculty and staff.

McCall stated, “Without question, the teachers and staff of Lowndes High School are always willing and eager to help students succeed.”

Floyd, the current Lowndes High Principal, has been named the sole finalist for Superintendent of Schools in Hart County, his hometown. Both McCall and the Lowndes County Board of Education stated they are very excited that Floyd has an opportunity to advance and wish him the best and extend a heartfelt thank you for his service to Lowndes High School.

Floyd also released a statement to express his profound gratitude to the entire staff for supporting him and generating an atmosphere of love and support for students. He noted that he hopes that everyone understands how special Lowndes High School is.

Floyd noted his decision to leave came down to Hart County being his hometown and his parents’ need of support in this stage of their life.

“This is the best teaching faculty that I have been associated with,” Floyd noted.  He said that serving as Principal of Lowndes High School has been an opportunity of a lifetime for him – one that he will always treasure.
