Man hit, killed by Train

TIFTON — A Tifton man was killed when he was struck by a train Monday morning.

WALB is reporting that authorities have confirmed the man was killed Monday morning after lying down on the tracks near Southern Avenue.

The incident, which occurred about 10:45 a.m., occurred when the man, who the train engineer stated was lying down on the tracks, was hit by the train. The engineer reported that they did not realize it was a person they saw on the tracks until it was too late to stop.

The Georgia State Patrol is now in charge of the investigation.
