VALDOSTA — Two men suspected by authorities related to the robbery of the Quality Inn hotel on Gornto Road are in custody.

Tevin Fitchett, 22 of Valdosta, and Shamari Pigford, 19 of Valdosta, have been arrested and charged with False Imprisonment, Simple Assault, and Theft by Taking. Pigford is charged with Party to the Crime on all three charges. Fitchett was a former employee of the Quality Inn and is the person who confronted the clerk and took the money.

The incident was reported on Sunday after 10 pm.  Valdosta Police Department officers responded to a robbery call at the Quality Inn. The night clerk had left the front desk area and had gone outside to check the pool area. While outside, a male dressed in dark clothing and covered in a hoodie approached the clerk and told him to get on the ground.

The offender had some type of stun gun in his possession. The suspect then entered the motel office and went behind the counter and took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash drawer and fled the area. The motel clerk was not injured although he believes he received a shock from the stun gun prior to the offender going into the office and taking the money.

An alert employee from a nearby business saw suspicious activity and telephoned 911. He reported seeing two males run by his business taking off clothes.

A very short time later, officers canvasing the area located the two male suspects at the Rodeway Inn sitting on a curb. The males were identified through various means as being involved in the Quality Inn theft and arrested without incident. Evidence was collected from both males that linked them to the incident at the Quality Inn. Detectives responded and continued the investigation.

Police noted that this was a team effort involving patrol officers and detectives working together to locate and identify the two offenders.

Anyone having any information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Valdosta Police Department at 229-293-3145 or the Crime Tip Line at 229-293-3091.
