VALDOSTA — The Lowndes County Democratic Party will hold county meeting Monday to discuss several topics of local interest.

Among the topics noted for discussion include the Sabal Trail pipeline across south Georgia and north Florida, wastewater overflows downstream on the Withlacoochee and Suwannee Rivers, solid waste, paving roads (which may contribute to flooding), and public transporation, which could affect many surrounding counties.

The meeting will be held at 6 pm on Monday, June 1st, at the Lowndes County Board of Elections office at 2808 North Oak Street until 7:30 p.m. They are asking attendees to bring a dish, but you do not need to bring food to join in.

Guest speakers scheduled include:

  • Bill Slaughter, Chairman, Lowndes County Commission
  • Ben Vieth, Students Against Violating the Environment
  • John S. Quarterman, President, WWALS Watershed Coalition, Inc.
  • Debra Johnson, Board Member, SpectraBusters, Inc.
  • Michael G. Noll, President, Wiregrass Activists for Clean Energy
  • The moderator as usual will be LCDP President Tom Hochschild.

The party also asks citizens to join them July 7th at Mathis Auditorium for the annual LCDP July BBQ.
