ATHENS — Quarterback Greyson Lambert is transferring to Georgia from Virginia.

Lambert is from Jesup and played at Wayne County High School. He is 6’5” 220 pounds. He was recruiting by Georgia until Brice Ramsey committed to the Georgia in 2012. He will have two years of eligibility remaining after graduating from Virginia later in June.

“Yes sir. I’m coming to Georgia,” Seth Emerson reports Lambert told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in a text message.

Lambert is eligible to play this season. Georgia now has four quarterbacks on scholarship, Brice Ramsey, Faton Bauta, Jacob Park, and Lambert. Prepare now for speculation about an outgoing transfer.

Head Coach Mark Richt’s active pursuit of a transfer quarterback closes with Lambert’s commitment, but questions about his confidence in the strength of Georgia’s quarterback corps continues. Ramsey was expected to claim the number one spot this spring, but Bauta performed well and extended the competition into the fall. Jacob Park showed dazzled as the 2014 scout team quarterback but showed less sizzle and more fizzle in the spring when asked to perform from the Schottenheimer playbook.

Georgia’s brief flirtation with Notre Dame transfer Everett Golson also contributed to the portrait of a quarterback corps in need. The acquisition of Lambert adds fuel to the notion that Georgia is in trouble at the quarterback spot.

“To me, having three is a small number on scholarship,” Richt told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “It’s just like at any position, if you’ve got guys that are interested in your school you spend time with them, talk to them and see if it’s a good fit. I mean, everybody’s gotta compete for their job, and that’s true for all sports.”

In 2014 Lambert started nine games, passed 261 times and completed 154 for 1632 yards, 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He was 19-of-32 for 230 yards and a score at Georgia Tech.
