ALBANY — Multiple local and state police agencies were involved in a traffic stop Monday just west of Sylvester, but it turns out that the suspect police wanted was not in the car.

Three pairs of expensive stolen sneakers, valued at $600, are at the heart of the case.

Darton College Police know who they are still looking for but they did not tell WALB who it is in their report. The people involved agreed to meet on a remote part of the Darton campus to buy the sneakers, but instead, stole them from the seller.

None of the people involved have any connection to the school.

According to Darton Police Chief James Brackin, one pair of sneakers has been recovered.

Here is the release issued by Darton State College Police:

Today at approximately 12:5PM Darton Police received a call in reference to an armed robbery on Meadowlark Drive Extension, on the southern portion of the campus.

The victim had arranged to meet a subject in regards to buying/exchanging some athletic shoes.

When the victim pulled up, three subjects were outside a white vehicle. As the victim approached the subjects, one produced a small caliber handgun.

The victim proceeded to hand over three pairs of shoes in boxes. The three subjects then drove away, traveling towards Gillionville Road.

The victim obtained the tag number, and a lookout was placed on the vehicle.

At approximately 1:10pm a Dougherty County Police officer made contact with the vehicle on Sylvester Road. A traffic stop was conducted and three persons of interest were later transported to Darton Police.

Investigation revealed that these were not the subjects who were at the robbery scene.

Two other suspects have been named, and attempts are on-going to locate them. One pair of the shoes was recovered.
