ORLANDO — A man was shot several times and critically wounded during a pickup soccer game Sunday evening in the Oak Ridge community south of Orlando, according to an Orange County Sheriff’s investigator.

Lt. Paul “Spike” Hopkins told the Orlando Sentinel that a crowd of about 100 people were watching soccer in a field near Brookgreen Avenue and Edgebrook Drive when a car arrived at about 6:30 p.m.

“The car pulls up, calls the victim over, a spectator, and as soon as he does come over they shoot him and they flee,” Hopkins said. “We have some good leads that we believe will solve this case.”

The victim, a man in his 20s, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
