UPDATE: Valdosta > Two Officers Involved in Shooting Behind Hotel

UPDATE: VALDOSTA — Two Lowndes County Sheriff’s deputies were involved in a shooting behind the Econo Lodge near Sleep Inn on St. Augustine Road.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that officers, shot and killed 42-year-old Dexter Pernell Bethea behind the hotel around 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday. Bethea attempted to hit the officers with his vehicle when they fired at him.

Two other people were inside of the vehicle at the time of the wreck. Officers arrested both of them, 29-year-old Jasmine Riley and 39-year-old Michael Hendley.

Riley and Hendlley are now being held at Lowndes County Jail on multiple drug charges.

The GBI found cocaine, marijuana, and a large amount of cash inside of the vehicle.

Two people in connection to the crime were arrested before the shooting, 40-year-old Christopher Williams and 32-year-old Connie Wood were taken to jail for attempted drug sale.

The case is still under investigation while the GBI determines what happened leading up to the shooting.

Both of the officers shot at the man, but the number of shots has yet to be determined. Officials will know on Friday, when the autopsy report is completed.

The names of the officers have yet to be released and are on paid leave until the investigation is complete.
