SPRINGFIELD — An Effingham County Middle School teacher who was being investigated for inappropriate conduct has resigned.

School Superintendent Randy Shearouse said an investigation started Thursday and the teacher was put on administrative leave.

He said she resigned Monday.

Shearouse said he couldn’t say if the allegations involve a child at the school.

“This is a serious situation,” Shearouse said.

He said parents can be assured that their children are safe going to school. “I would not worry about sending my child to school,” he said.

Sgt. Don White with the Effingham Sheriff’s Office confirmed an investigation is ongoing.
