Valdosta > WORLD CHANGERS at S.L. Mason Elementary School

| February 23, 2015

VALDOSTA — In the month of February, S.L. Mason’s Student Council, along with Jr. Beta and the PBIS Team, will be hosting an anti-bullying campaign. The campaign is designed to remind students to CHANGE THE WORLD by being kind to others and allowing that kindness to spread.

On Friday, January 30th, students participated in a kickoff rally introducing the campaign slogan, “BE THE CHANGE.” Students were encouraged by the words of Mahatma Gandhi, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Students created campaign-themed posters and sang Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” with S.L. Mason’s very own, Jerrod Grier. Third through fifth grade students danced along with Andy the Texas Roadhouse Armadillo.

Throughout the month, S.L. Mason will have various activities including poster contests, door decorating contests, and writing contests to remind the students that words hurt and it is important to be kind to all people. Electives teachers will be providing activities in their classes to promote the campaign and the media specialist has created an anti-bullying section in the library for students to check out themed books.

In addition, students will have the opportunity to be recognized as WORLD CHANGERS. Each week, teachers will be nominating students that they notice being kind to others and ‘making a change.’ Colored paper chain links will adorn the halls of S.L. Mason meeting centrally at a globe in the front atrium as a symbol of our school’s unity. Students will receive prizes from our Community Partners in Education (CPIE) such as world-themed cookies from Pammy Cakes, free meals and tokens from Texas Roadhouse, and various prizes and materials from other CPIEs such as Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, Zaxby’s, and Domino’s Pizza.
S.L. Mason would like to thank everyone involved in making this event possible and wants to remind everyone to ‘Be the change you wish to see in the world!’
