ENGLAND — Frank Lampard returns to Stamford Bridge for a bruising match against his former club.  Here’s a roundup of that and some of the other key matches played this past weekend in the Barclay’s Premier League.

CHELSEA 1-1 MANCHESTER CITY

Both teams were missing key players, but Manchester City will feel it wasted a prime chance to close the gap on a shorthanded and first-place Chelsea side in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s lead atop the Premier League remains five points over second-place Manchester City. Manchester United are five points back of City thanks to a 3-1 win over Leicester earlier Saturday.

Both scores came before half, with Loic Remy and David Silva slotting home.

SOUTHAMPTON 0-1 SWANSEA CITY

Southampton dominated the game at St. Mary’s through 80 minutes, but without finishing to match their creativity, Swansea pounced on the opportunity to steal the points.

Jonjo Shelvey, back from a long suspension for violent conduct, crashed home a beautiful strike from distance in the 83rd minute against the run of play to secure a surprise win for Swansea and send Southampton packing with a disappointing missed opportunity

ARSENAL 5-0 ASTON VILLA

The home side dominated from start to finish as Arsenal dominated Aston Villa at the Emirates with a comprehensive 5-0 victory thanks mostly to a deadly counter-attack that struck three times in the second half.

Aston Villa capped their disappointing day with a dubious club record – that of 612 minutes (and counting) since their last goal in Premier League play.

Arsenal had a chance straight away, inside two minutes as Theo Walcott sprung free on goal, but Jores Okore recovered to make a key tackle before the shot could come off.

HULL CITY 0-3 NEWCASTLE UNITED

LIVERPOOL 2-0 WEST HAM UNITED

MANCHESTER UNITED 3-1 LEICESTER CITY

SUNDERLAND 2-0 BURNLEY

CRYSTAL PALACE 0-1 EVERTON

WEST BROMWICH ALBION 0-3 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

STOKE CITY 3-1 QUEENS PARK RANGERS
