LA GRANGE — Troup County law enforcement has reported the capture of a Georgia man charged in the deaths of 5 people, including his wife.

Thomas J. Lee, 26 of La Grange, was arrested at a bus station in Tupelo, Mississippi on Monday.  He has been charged in the deaths of his wife, Christie Lee, 33, three of her family members, Bailey Burtron, 16, Christie Lee’s daughter, and her parents, William Burtron, 69, and Shelia Burtron, 68.  He is also charged with killing a Burtron friend, Iiaonna Green, 18, who had been living with the family.

Law enforcement stated the victims had been dead for three days when deputies found them late Saturday.  Deputies had been tipped by an employers of one of the victims, William Burtron, after not attending work.  All of the victims’ bodies were found in the same house.  Thought not official yet, deputies stated at least 4 had been shot.  They were found in separate rooms.

Lee was arrested after telling a Mississippi preacher he was having car trouble and needed to get to Opelika, Alabama.  After the preacher helped Lee get a bus ticket, he later notified authorities after realizing the man he helped could have been a fugitive.

Troup authorities stated there had been no prior reports of violence associated with the family.
