VALDOSTA — After action by the Lowndes County Board of Education on Monday night, Coach Randy McPherson announced the hiring of David D. Shores as defensive coordinator.

Shores comes to Lowndes from Peach County High School, where he served as defensive coordinator for the past season. Peach County’s 2014 defense finished as the 3rd ranked scoring defense in Georgia’s Class AAA allowing only 7.4 pts per game. This was an improvement from the 2013 season when the Trojans give up over 30 points per game. The 2014 Trojans finished with a 10-1 record (3 shutouts) and Region 2-AAA champs.

Shores said, “I am extremely excited about joining the Vikings’ rich tradition of success and competing at the highest level of high school football in the state of Georgia.”

Coach Shores played college ball for Terry Bowden at Auburn in 1996-97 where he played defensive back and was a member of the 1997 SEC West Division Champs. He was a student assistant to Bill Oliver in 1998 and a graduate assistant to Tommy Tuberville in 1999 at Auburn.

He served as a member of Rush Propst’s staff at Hoover High before joining Nick Saban’s staff at LSU in 2004 where he served as defensive intern to Will Muschamp.

Shores was named head coach at Spain Park High School, Birmingham, AL in 2006 where he led the 2009 team to the Alabama class 6A quarterfinals and finished with a 10-3 record. In 2011 he was named head coach at Pell City High School, AL where he led them to their first playoff appearance in 5 years and first playoff victory in 7 years.

Shores brings a wealth of college and high school experience to Lowndes. Coach McPherson says, “… he will make me a better coach and I hope to make him a better coach. We complement each other extremely well and I look forward to Coach Shores joining our staff….”

Shores says he will employ a very multiple defense that is ‘versatile and complex enough to keep opposing offenses guessing.’ He says “it is my goal to place our defensive personnel in the best possible situation to experience individual and collective success.”
Shores joins TuckerPruitt who was hired in December as offensive coordinator. Shores will coach safeties and Pruitt will coach quarterbacks.
