VALDOSTA — On Tuesday, Jan. 6, the Valdosta Police Department contacted Bay County Sheriff’s Office for information concerning a child molestation case involving one of their deputies, 24-year-old, David Kenneth Mudge.

A 12-year-old child reported being molested in a Valdosta motel on Oct. 10, 2014. The child was staying with a group of people from Panama City, Florida, one of them was Mudge.

The BCSO was already investigating Mudge due to previous reports.

On Jan. 6, the BCSO received a report from the Department of Children and Families about a sexual molestation of a juvenile. The victim reported being molested on three separate occasions, twice in Bay County and once in Valdosta.

Two detectives from the VPD went to Panama City on Wednesday, Jan. 7, to investigate the case. The detectives signed an active arrest warrant for Mudge on one count of Aggravated Child Molestation.

Mudge was charged with two counts of Lewd and Lascivious Molestation on a victim under the age of 12. He was then terminated from the BCSO and is now being held on $100,000 bond in Bay County Jail.

The VPD and the BCSO are continuing the investigation together.

Based on the highly misleading headline you would think it was a VPD officer that was arrested. A revision would be good.
