VALDOSTA — On Jan. 29, the Valdosta-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce hosted their 103rd Annual Membership Meeting. The meeting began with a review of 2014 with the theme of “behind every great community is a strong chamber.”

The event’s sponsor was Astro Exterminating Services, which joined the chamber in 1969.

“One of my first jobs was to get involved with the chamber and I realized then it was a great way to network, I was young, I was able to meet a lot of people, introduce people, learned a lot about our community through the chamber and the programs they had,” Laura Perlman of Astro Exterminating Services said. “It also promoted our business, but I guess one of the things i learned most about that is even more important than promoting our business, we have a very strong inviting chamber and as they say in many of their things it truly is the voice of business in our community.”

Elton Dixon, owner of Enay Coaching LLC, was awarded the 2015 Southwest Georgia Bank Business Plan Competition. Southwest Georgia Bank gave Dixon a $10,000 check towards his business.

“I’m 40 years old and it’s very easy to feel like I’m getting a very late start doing the things I love doing the most, but then you hit a milestone like this and you know it’s one great thing along the journey of great things to happen for us and our team, its much easier to feel like I’m right where I’m supposed to be,” Dixon said.

Lee McArthur of Voya Financial and Beverly Edwards of Southwest Georgia Bank won the A.L. Girardin Award. The A.L. Girardin award is given to chamber members who have helped the community, local businesses, and the chamber tremendously throughout the year.

Ron Borders was given the title of 2015 Chairman of the Board.

“In order to build a vibrant, dynamic community where we prosper and ensure a high quality of life for our families and our children, we have to work together. It’s not enough that we build our individual businesses, we have to help one another build their businesses as well,” Borders said.

The Chairman’s Circle was acknowledged for their contributions to the community. These members are: 1st America Health Group, Ameris Bank, Bush Wealth Management, Citizens Community Bank, Cypress Lakes, Team Temps, Elead One, Fresh Beginnings, First State Bank, Georgia Power, SouthEastern Federal Credit Union, SGMC,Tanner Investment Group, and Valdosta State University.

The President’s Partners was also acknowledged for their contributions as well. These partners are: Coleman Talley, Heritage Bank, First Federal Savings, Colony Bank, SGB, CBC, and Barnes Healthcare Services.
