ACC Championship - Duke v Florida State

TALLAHASSEE — Despite declaring for the NFL draft and hiring an agent, troubles remain related to┬áJameis Winston for Florida State University and it has nothing to do with football.

A former FSU student who claims she was raped by Winston has now filed a federal lawsuit against the university, according to a release by University.

The woman filed the suit in federal court in Orlando.

According the WCTV, the suit claims FSU violated federal Title IX laws by failing to report the accusations to a Title IX Officer, failing to pursue code of conduct proceedings against Winston, and failing to provide any protection for her.

The woman claims she was forced to leave the university because of threats and fear for her safety. She is seeking damages, a refund of her tuition and more.

The complaint alleges that Jameis Winston’s accuser became subject to a “sexually hostile” environment while she was an FSU student.

It also contends that FSU’s response to rape accusations against Winston and outside threats to the accuser were “clearly unreasonable.”

The suit says the “plaintiff’s inability to attend classes at FSU in favor of men’s athletics is exactly the result that Title IX was designed to prevent.”

In response FSU President John Thrasher issued a statement, which says in part:

“In all, the University asked the plaintiff or her attorneys at least nine times over nearly 20 months to give a statement that would enable a Title IX investigation. FSU did not ignore the complainant or its obligations under Title IX,” Thrasher said.
