Allison Ericson, Valdosta Today News Director:

EASTPOINT, Fla. — On Dec. 20, 15-year-old, Leah Reeder was mauled by a bear, leaving her with cuts on her head and face, and bites on her arm and leg.

On Dec. 22, Florida authorities identified the female bear and euthanized it along with three others.

Karen Park, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman reported to The News Herald that one of the bears matched the DNA collected from Reeder’s clothing.

Wildlife officials captured four adult bears and two cubs in the Eastpoint area after Reeder’s attack. The two cubs were relocated.

Since April, seven bears total have been euthanized in central Florida.
