Lowndes game

VALDOSTA — After action by the Lowndes County Board of Education on Monday night, Coach Randy McPherson announced the hiring of Tucker Pruitt as offensive coordinator. Pruitt comes to Lowndes from Coffee High, where he served as offensive coordinator for the past two seasons.

Pruitt comes from a well-known football family—his father is Robby Pruitt, current head coach at Coffee High School and a member of the Florida High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.

Pruitt played high school football for his father—three years at Fitzgerald High and his senior year in 2003 at Warner Robins. His collegiate career was spent at Valdosta State from 2004-2008. The first three years were with Chris Hatcher and the ‘Hatch Attack’ spread offense. In ’07 and ’08 he played for David Dean. He was a member of the 2007 Division II National Championship team and was a redshirt on the 2004 title team.

He began his coaching career in 2009 at Georgia Southern University, where he coached quarterbacks for Head Coach Chris Hatcher. In 2011 he was named offensive coordinator at Thomson High School. He re-united with his father at Coffee High in 2012 and was named offensive coordinator at Coffee in 2013 and coached quarterbacks. In 2013 he coached Tyree Paulk, who led Region 1-6A in passing with 1869 yards and 24 touchdowns. This past season Coffee averaged over 375 yards per game and finished with a 10-2 record.

Pruitt plans to run a spread offense at Lowndes, similar to the spread that Auburn and Clemson both run. Said Head Coach Randy McPherson, “I learned to run the football by running the football. Tucker learned to throw the football by throwing the football with Chris Hatcher. There is a big difference when you learn to do something by doing it—then you know better what is going on.”

McPherson went on to say he had been talking and trading ideas with Pruitt for the past couple years. Calling him “someone I have 100% confidence in turning the offensive over to,” McPherson said he was “delighted” to have him finally join his staff. In addition to assuming the play calling duties, Pruitt will coach quarterbacks. He will begin his teaching and coaching duties at Lowndes High on February 2, 2015.

McPherson continues the search for a defensive coordinator.
