On Oct. 9, almost $5000 in grants were awarded to 20 teachers from the Valdosta City and Lowndes County School Systems. The following innovative teachers received an LEG grant to support their projects for their classroom:

Whitney Robinson, Elizabeth Williams, Rejina Patrick, Melissa Evans, Melanie Sainz, Heather Epley, Haley Harvell, Cynthia Flowers, Denise Lee, Jennifer Lukens, Pamela Ross, Sara Wilder, Joy Cowart, Alison McCrary, Jay Eason, Sarah Grant, Jennifer Schneider, Catheryn Shaw, Winnie Angelillo, and Channah Galbraith.

The Valdosta Jr. Service League is an organization committed to improving the cultural, recreational, welfare, civic and educational conditions in the community. The League is not only committed to supporting local schools financially; several ladies have been hard at work volunteering in the schools. Already this school year, many women have served hundreds of hours in the schools – testing hearing and vision for every 3rd and 6th grade student in all public and private schools, donating school supplies to five elementary schools, working at school Book Fairs, organizing food for Hungry at Home and distributing book bags packed with food for children over the weekends. The members of the VJSL are eager to serve the children of the Valdosta and Lowndes County community, supporting the efforts of dedicated teachers at the local school systems.
