Patient Screened for Ebola in Americus

ebolahysteria-croppedAMERICUS — A patient was admitted to the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus Thursday with symptoms similar to Ebola.

The patient presented symptoms of fever, diarrhea and vomiting.  The hospital followed recommended guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and the patient was asked for a travel history.  Though he had not been to Africa, he had attended a conference in California where he had been seated next to a person who had recently traveled to Africa.

The patient was isolated until a consultation was obtained with the chief epidemiologist with the State Department of Public Health in Atlanta, when it was determined that the patient was at no risk of being infected with Ebola virus.

We will provide any further updates to this story as they become available.
