Lowndes Teachers Receive Colquitt EMC Grants

| September 12, 2014

childree 1VALDOSTA — Lowndes High School’s Drama Teacher Phyllis Childree was enjoying a quiet lunch on Tuesday during her few minutes of the day away from students when she received a welcomed and surprising interruption! Principal Jay Floyd walked into her classroom with guests who brought a check for $1000.

The presentation was the first of four Colquitt EMC’s Bright Ideas grants to be presented to teachers in Lowndes County Schools. Colquitt EMC employees will make 10 of these presentations to teachers in a 7 county area over the next few weeks. Teachers submit applications in the spring before leaving for summer break and wait and hope for a surprise visit like the one that Mrs. Childree received Tuesday. By this time next week, three more teachers in Lowndes County Schools will be surprised grant recipients.
