VALDOSTA, GA – For the Lady Blazer basketball program, all eyes are set on November 14, 2014. The date marks the home opener against Eckerd and the start of a brand new season, in which Valdosta State will celebrate 40 years of Lady Blazer basketball and will have the opportunity to bounce back from an injury-plagued 2013-14 campaign.

And what better way to bounce back than against league opponents? Rivals throughout the Gulf South Conference populate a hefty portion of the 2014-15 schedule, with conference play set to kick off against the Lions of North Alabama on December 4th, less than one month into the season.

“From our initial GSC-Sunshine-SIAC Challenge games all the way through our 22 game conference schedule, we will be provided with extreme challenges throughout the year,” said Head Coach Kiley Hill. “The high level of competition combined with the amount of traveling that we will face will be a challenge, but we embrace the opportunity to measure ourselves night in and night out against some of the best teams in the country as we represent Valdosta State and the Valdosta community.”

Six non-conference games open up the 2014-15 season and lead into six GSC contests before the team takes a short hiatus for a Christmas break. The second half of the schedule kicks off on January 3rd at home against Christian Brothers with the first of 16 more conference games to be played throughout the remainder of the regular season. Postseason play begins with the GSC Tournament quarterfinal round on March 3rd, which will be hosted this season by the highest seed in each quarterfinal round matchup. The semifinal and championship rounds of the GSC Tournament are scheduled to take place in Birmingham, Ala. beginning on March 6th.

Games of note for the upcoming season include Hall of Fame night on January 24th, when the Lady Blazers and Blazers host North Alabama. In addition, Valdosta State will host their 40th Anniversary Celebration on February 7th, as the team takes on the rival Lady Statesmen of Delta State at 6:00 p.m. at The Complex. The annual Pink Zone night is scheduled for February 21st when VSU hosts West Georgia, and Valdosta State Athletics will recognize the 2014-15 Blazer and Lady Blazer seniors on February 28th, when the defending women’s basketball GSC champion West Florida Argonauts come to town.

Mark your calendars now for what is sure to be another exciting, action-packed season of Lady Blazer basketball.
