Speed Limit Increase to be Considered For I-75 in Valdosta

| August 21, 2014

I75-SignVALDOSTA, GA – The Valdosta City Council will be considering to raise the speed limit on I-75 in the city limits Thursday afternoon. According to data found by the GDOT, drivers are going faster than the posted 65 miles per hour on the interstate.

The speed limit was lowered due to construction last year, and has never been raised since the construction ended.

Larry Ogden, Traffic Manager for the City of Valdosta, told WCTV that increasing the speed limit would decrease the number of speeding tickets in the area, but that it is safe to assume the speed limit should be increased if motorists are comfortable driving at 70 mph.

Even though the GDOT conducted the traffic study, The City will have the final say so to increase the speed limit.

Valdosta City Council meets Thursday night at 5:30 at City Hall.
