On Sunday, at approximately 6:44 pm, the Valdosta Police Department responded to the Family Dollar, 512 E. Central Avenue in reference to the report of an armed robbery. Officers arrived and were told that an African American male had entered the store, displayed what appeared to be a handgun wrapped up in a t-shirt, then removed an undisclosed amount of money out of the cash register.

The African American male then left on foot, but was seen a short distance away, getting into a grey Dodge Magnum being driven by an African American female. Detectives from the Valdosta Police Department and a Crime Scene Technician from the Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory responded to investigate.

A short time later a Valdosta Police Officer who had just gotten off duty observed the grey Dodge Magnum on Hwy 84 near Naylor, GA. The officer got in behind the vehicle and ran the license plate, which indicated that the car had been reported stolen. The officer followed the vehicle until a backup unit could arrive.

A Lanier County Sheriff’s Deputy caught up to the suspects just inside of Clinch County where they conducted a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Alicia Rebecca Sault, African American female, 24, and the passenger as Cecil Bernard Williams, African American male, 29, of Homerville.

A witness to the robbery agreed to ride with a detective to the scene of the traffic stop and Williams was positively identified as the offender. Both Williams and Sault were arrested and transported to the Valdosta Police Department for questioning, then later transported to the Lowndes County Jail. Williams is being charged with Armed Robbery and Sault is being charged with Armed Robbery-Party to the Crime.

The case is still under investigation and other charges may be filed. No one was hurt during the robbery or arrest.
