| August 7, 2014

VFD-Fire-TruckVALDOSTA, GA – Have you ever wanted to be a firefighter? The Valdosta Fire Department is giving you the chance to learn the ins and outs of being a firefighter.

The deadline to sign up for Valdosta’s Citizens Fire Academy is Friday, August 8, at 5:00 p.m. The Valdosta Citizens Fire Acadmey is a six-week course that teaches participants about fire and life safety. The academy is used to give citizens a better idea of how the fire department operates.

The fire department is looking forward to a big turnout from the community. Valdosta Fire Chief Freddie Broome told WALB, “The more we feel we can get the citizens and the community involved and understanding of how we operate and the services we provide, the more we can send the message that we’re a community department.”

Classes will run from September 9th to October 28th. For more information about the program, or to register, visit
