fire-flamesVALDOSTA, GA – Power has been restored after a fire at a local power plant left citizens in Lowndes County without electricity.

According to reports, the fire happened around 2 p.m. at the Colquitt EMC plant on Lakeland Highway North of Inner Perimeter Road. A piece of equipment that regulates voltage from transformers had a hole in it, which cause the equipment to catch fire, according to officials.

Monday night, crews were installing a replacement part and are determing how the hole was created. About 4800 people in Lowndes County were without power for about an hour during the fire.
