Lowndes Youth Leadership League Graduates 16th Class of Young Community Leaders

Leadership-LowndesVALDOSTA, GA – The Lowndes Youth Leadership League graduated its 16th class of young community leaders at a ceremony held in their honor on April 23rd at Valdosta State University.

The 2014 Lowndes Youth Leadership League is comprised of Sophomores and Juniors from local high schools in Lowndes County. According to LYLL Coordinator Brittney Foster-Hull, “The goal of the program is to strengthen each student’s leadership ability and have fun learning! I know we accomplished these goals with this year’s class. I could not be more proud of this group.”

Trey Leonard (Lowndes High School) was voted this year’s Class President. Trey commented, “The Lowndes Youth Leadership program of 2014 was an invaluable experience that shed new light on the various opportunities and needs throughout our community and state. The connections and friendships made during the year were meaningful and genuine, and I felt such a strong sense of accomplishment from learning all that I could and positively impacting citizens through my community service project with Second Harvest Food Bank.”

Chelan Worms (Lowndes High School) was the recipient of the Barnabas Award: “It was an honor to be selected for Leadership Lowndes. The program definitely honed our leadership skills, and taught us how to work as part of a cohesive team to achieve a common goal. Touring the community and seeing the
different aspects of business and government was very enlightening. From Moody AFB to the tour of the capitol, it broadened our awareness of the community and how to better serve in the future.
