VPD Arrest Wanted Ohio Man

| April 14, 2014

Valdosta-Police-Car-SideVALDOSTA, GA – A wanted Ohio man was arrested in Valdosta on Saturday.

Officers with the Valdosta Police Department responded to the 600 block of Troup Street Saturday evening for a domestic dispute call. When they arrived, they determined the dispute was verbal but as officers interviewed individuals at the resident, they became concerned that something else was wrong.

Officers then determined that one of the residents inside the home was Marlin Koonce who was currently being sought by the East Cleveland (Ohio) Police Department for Attempted Murder with a Firearm, Felonious Assault with a Firearm (2 Counts), Aggravated Robbery with a Firearm (2 Counts), Robbery with a Firearm (2 Counts), Petty Theft, and Having Firearm While Under Disability. Once officers determined that Koonce was inside the residence, they were also advised by Ohio authorities that Koonce is considered extremely dangerous.

Koonce was immediately taken into custody by officers and transported to the Lowndes County Jail pending extradition procedures back to Ohio. The arresting officer also spoke with an investigator with East Cleveland Police Department to advise the investigator of the arrest of Koonce. Koonce was in Valdosta because he knew an occupant in the residence and the fact he was on the run from Ohio authorities.

“This was a tremendous effort by a patrol supervisor and officers with the police department who conducted an internet search from their in-car computers, finding media articles to help determine the identity of Koonce, who initially lied about his identity. Their persistence paid off and ensured a violent offender from Ohio is off the streets of Valdosta”, stated Chief Brian Childress.

Anyone having any further information regarding these crimes or any other crime is urged to contact the Valdosta Police Department at 229-293-3145 or can remain anonymous at 229-293-3091.
