MONTGOMERY, AL – The Valdosta State Lady Blazer tennis team has earned a spot in the semifinal round of the Gulf South Tournament after a 5-0 rout of the West Georgia Wolves in Thursday’s opening match.

The second seeded Lady Blazers improved their record to 13-4 overall, and will face the winner of North Alabama and Delta State. The two teams represent the No. 3 and No. 6 teams in the tournament, respectively.

There was never a doubt for the Lady Blazers, as the squad opened up with three straight wins in doubles play, beginning with an 8-0 win for Michelle Fischer and Sabrina Schmidt at No. 1 over Sierra Brown and Cailey Stevens.

Jessica Tuggle and Jennifer Rink took the court at No. 2, and rolled Amanda Northrup and Whitney Maples with an 8-2 win before Julianna Boehm and Moriah Hibbard teamed up to blow by Kelly Arsenault and Katherine Burger, 8-2, at No. 3.

The Lady Blazers needed just two more wins in singles action to clinch the win, and Schmidt and Rink both delivered with 6-0, 6-0 wins.

Schmidt overpowered Maples at No. 4, but not before Rink cruised past Stevens at No. 3.

The Wolves saw their record fall to 3-12 after the loss and were eliminated from the tournament.
