GDOL to Host Employer Seminar on Federal Labor Laws in Valdosta April 23

Georgia-Department-of-LaborATLANTA, GA – The Georgia Department of Labor’s (GDOL) Valdosta Career Center will host an employer seminar on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and other federal labor laws. It will be held Wednesday, April 23, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the career center, 221 South Ashley St.

The seminar will be led by John L. Monroe, Jr. and Tiffany D. Downs of Atlanta, attorneys with a law firm, Ford and Harrison, LLP. In addition to PPACA, the seminar will focus on U.S. National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) issues such as student-athletes as employees, the definitions of “supervisor,” and “seasonal employees,” along with the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

The seminar is designed for entrepreneurs, business owners, managers, supervisors, human resource personnel, and other professionals interested in labor laws. It is sponsored by the South Georgia Employer Committee and the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce.

The fee for the seminar is $15 for those who register by Friday, April 18, while it is $20 for those who register after that date.

The South Georgia Employer Committee is comprised of employers in Brooks, Cook, Echols, Lanier and Lowndes counties. Employer committees are groups of local business representatives who establish and maintain working relationships between employers and GDOL career centers.
