Employer Seminar on Labor Laws to be Held in Tifton May 16

Georgia-Department-of-Labor ATLANTA, GA – The Tift Area HR/Employer Committee will sponsor a seminar on state and federal labor laws for employers. The seminar will be held Friday, May 16, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Georgia Department of Labor’s (GDOL) Tifton Career Center, 310 South Tift Ave. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

The seminar will be led by Jonathan Martin of Macon, an attorney with a law firm, Constangy, Brooks & Smith, LLP, and a former chairperson of the Georgia Employer Committee. The seminar will focus on Georgia’s workers’ compensation law and how it intersects with the federal American Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Also, the management of human resources and the costs of litigation resulting from the workplace will be discussed.

The seminar is designed for entrepreneurs, business owners, managers, supervisors, human resource personnel, and other professionals interested in labor laws.

The fee for the seminar is $99 for the first attendee of each organization and $59 for each additional attendee. Checks should be made to the Tift Area HR/Employer Committee and mailed to 310 South Tift Ave., Tifton, Ga. 31794.

The Tift Area HR/Employer Committee is comprised of employers in Ben Hill, Berrien, Irwin, Tift, and Turner counties. Employer committees are groups of local business representatives who establish and maintain working relationships between employers and GDOL career centers.
