Valdosta-Lowndes-County-Chamber-of-CommerceVALDOSTA, GA – The Valdosta-Lowndes Chamber’s Government Affairs Council Executive Committee traveled to Atlanta last week to advocate the business interests of the Valdosta community to state representatives at the Capitol. The group was accompanied by Courtney Brinson of AT&T, the sponsor for this year’s visit.

The committee met with Georgia State Representatives Ellis Black, Amy Carter, Dexter Sharper, and Jason Shaw to discuss the delegation’s stances on bills that the Government Affairs Council has been closely following as well as area interests.

The discussion included updates on the current Common Core debates, the recently released state budget, and the $10 million funding applied to Invest Georgia. Talks also included Senator Tim Golden’s recent decision to retire. The delegation praised Senator Golden for his many achievements and his outstanding leadership and expertise noting that he will definitely be missed.

The committee also attended the annual Bird Supper hosted at the Georgia Railroad Depot in Atlanta, where many conversations were centered on who will be in the running for the coming elections.
