Hahira Middle Edges Competition at GA-NASP Regional 6

HMS-ArcheryVALDOSTA, GA – Hahira Middle School was the highest overall scoring team at the sixth Georgia National Archery in the Schools Program regional tournament Saturday at Pine Grove Middle School.

Hahira Middle’s archery team shot a 3,009 to win the overall team title, beating out 15 other schools to qualify for the 8th annual Georgia-NASP State Tournament April 8 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry.

Lee County High School in Leesburg won the high school division with a team score of 2,995, while Pataula Charter Academy in Edison captured the elementary division crown with a team score of 2,776. Both Lee County High and Pataula Charter archery teams receive automatic bids to the state tournament for winning regional division titles.

Lee County Middle School’s Trellis Whaley led the field with a 282 (out of 300) to win the overall highest scoring female archer title. Lee County Middle’s Skylar Presley shot a 280 to capture the overall highest scoring male award.

Other top individual shooters included: Charlton County High’s Mary Baxter (277, top high school female); Thomasville High’s Paul Nix (276, top high school male); Pataula Charter Academy’s Coy Bruner (272, top elementary school male); and Pataula Charter Academy’s Cynthia Hewett (239, top elementary school female).

More than 300 students in elementary, middle and high school competed at Georgia-NASP Regional No. 6 at Pine Grove Middle. Other competing schools were Pine Grove Elementary (Valdosta), Indian Creek Elementary (Douglas), Folkston Elementary, Pine Grove Middle (Valdosta), Bethune Middle (Folkston), Veritas Academy (Savannah), Charlton County High, Christian Homeschool Association of Thomasville, Cook High and Thomasville High. Schools that did not win their division and an automatic berth to state at the regional tournament can still be selected as a high-scoring wildcard team after the final regional tournament is completed on March 1. Wildcard standings are posted at www.georgiawildlife.com/NASP along with regional, state and national tournament rules, regulations, and more.

More than 1,500 student archers have competed in the seven regional Georgia-NASP tournaments held February-March.
