VALDOSTA, GA – Julianna BoehmSabrina Schmidt, and Laura Ubeda improved on their undefeated singles records and lifted the Lady Blazer tennis team to a 9-0 victory over the Lady Bulldogs of Ferris State on Tuesday afternoon at the VSU Tennis Courts.

The win was the second straight for Valdosta State and moved their overall season record to 5-2 on the year, while the Lady Bulldogs fell to 8-15-2 on their season.

The afternoon kicked off with a quick win 8-1 win for Michelle Fischer and Sabrina Schmidt, who improved their doubles record to 5-1 on the year, as they defeated Ana Jan and Gabrielle Demchenko.

Jessica Tuggle and Moriah Hibbard slid by Janie Sell and Sydney Berens with a 9-8 (7-4) win, and Laura Ubeda teamed up with Julianna Boehm for the first time this season to claim an 8-0 victory over Rebecca Beloungea and Anne Smudz.

The dominant team effort by the Lady Blazers continued in singles play, starting with Fischer’s 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 over Ana Jan, followed by Ubeda’s 6-0, 6-0 thrashing of Demchenko at No. 2.

Jennifer Rink snapped out of her recent slump in singles play with a vengeance, as she claimed a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory over Sell at No. 3.

Finishing off the sweep for the Lady Blazers was Schmidt at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Berens, followed by Boehm at No. 5, who improved to 7-0 in singles play on the year with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Beloungea.

Joanna Lario helped the Lady Blazers finish strong with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Smudz at No. 6.

Next up for the Lady Blazers is a Gulf South Conference matchup against North Alabama in two weeks, as Valdosta State hosts league rival North Alabama on Tuesday, March 25th for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
