Brian Browning Seeks Re-Election to Lowndes County Board of Education

| March 4, 2014

Brian-Browning-Board-of-EducationVALDOSTA, GA – Brian Browning announces plans to seek re-election to Lowndes County Board of Education District 3 seat.  Browning released this statement on Monday on his decision to run for re-election.

“I have qualified March 3, 2014, and am officially announcing my plans to seek re-election for the Lowndes County Board of Education District 3 seat.  The past four years have been educational and rewarding for me in my first term as a Board of Education member. I am so proud of the accomplishments of our system and the positive direction which we are heading.

While serving on the Board of Education, I had the opportunity to assist the system in transitioning from the retirement of our former superintendent into the leadership of Superintendent Wes Taylor. Additionally, a priority has been to determine financially a means by which to offset the State austerity cuts in funding and restore the Calendar Adjustment Days (CAD) for our students, teachers and employees. As a component of our 2014-2015 budget, our board has approved a calendar that will meet this goal pending any unforeseen cuts from Atlanta. I have strongly supported this position of restoring our students and employees to a complete calendar.

Lowndes County Schools is recognized state-wide with high achieving schools through exemplary student achievement.  Additionally, our system continues to receive accolades and recognition as having outstanding students and teachers.  Foremost, my first priority is to provide a safe learning environment for our children and school family.  During my term as Board member, we have worked in conjunction with the Lowndes County Sherriff’s Department to reach this goal by placing a full-time Sherriff’s Deputy in each school.

I am a local business owner, and have lived in Lowndes County as a Viking for 20 years.  My wife’s career as an educator has been working with the Lowndes County School System, and my daughter is a 5th grader at Westside Elementary.  We are members of First Baptist Church, Valdosta.

Serving as a School Board Member requires a passion. I am passionate about our schools and our school system.  Our children are our future.  I plan to continue working for our schools.  My goal is for our children to receive a world-class education.  The result being opportunities entitling them a bright future as leaders of tomorrow.

Our school system is currently experiencing great success – we have come a long way, and have a long way yet to go.  However, I am determined to see our system prosper and thrive throughout another term as a School Board Member.  I have had the opportunity to serve as Vice Chairman on the Board of Education since 2012, and look forward to providing leadership for four more years.

With the continued growth of Lowndes County, I believe the experience I have gained during my first term as a School Board Member equips me to navigate the challenges and opportunities on the horizon, and continue in our quest for “Excellence Every Day”.”
