No One Comes Forward for Reward in KJ Case

| January 22, 2014

Kendrick-Johnson-SCLC-Floyd-Rose VALDOSTA, GA – It has been three months since, local civil rights leader, Rev. Floyd Rose announced a reward offer in the death Kendrick Johnson. In October, Rev. Rose offered a reward of $10,000, for 90 days, to anyone with information leading to the arrest of a person(s) who could have been involved with Kendrick Johnson’s death.

On Tuesday, Jan. 21, Rev. Rose held a press conference where he announced the $10,000 check would be returned to Roy E. Taylor, the local Valdosta businessman who anonymously donated the check in October. Taylor had asked Rose to coordinate the reward offer, but stipulated that the reward would only be available for a 90-day period.

The intent of the reward was to encourage anyone with information to come forward, said Rose. Any information that was brought to Rose’s attention would be immediately shared with U.S. District Attorney Micheal Moore and the Johnson family attorney Chevene King, but according to Rose not a “single piece of credible information” was given to him.

Rose told reporters Kenneth Johnson, Kendrick’s father, had called before the reward was announced in October angrily objecting the offer be made. At the press conference on Tuesday, Rose provided a letter he sent to King in October which expressed Rose’s confusion as to why Kenneth Johnson would not want the reward offered, when it could lead to an arrest of someone responsible for his son’s death. Roses states in the letter he did not tell a CNN reporter of Kenneth Johnson’s opposition in October.

“I didn’t tell the reporter that Mr. Johnson didn’t want me to offer the reward, because nobody would have understood that: NOBODY,” according to the letter from Rose to King, “The conclusion would have been, as you know, that the family wanted to drag this matter out so they can raise money. I can’t understand why Mr. Johnson was so angry and adamant in not wanting me to offer the reward…”

During the press conference Rose was very adamant that his position on Kendrick Johnson’s death is that it was a tragic accident, and that claims of a cover up are implausible.

  1. Leigh Touchton says:

At the Al Sharpton rally in May, held at Serenity Church, offered with care and compassion to a grieving family by Rev. Rose, Reverend Sharpton himself requested that a portion of the money raised (nearly $7,000) be used for a reward. Attorney Chevene King made public statements that same day indicating that a reward would be forthcoming. It never was. In the year since KJ’s death, the Kendrick Johnson family and their attorneys have not put together a reward for information leading to arrest of anyone thought to be involved in this young man’s death. Yet when Rev. Rose organized this reward, the father was extremely angry. Rational people can draw their own conclusions.

      What conclusion is that?

    • Shell says:

Leigh my conclusion that if they didn’t want the reward money coming from your and Floyd its because they knew just like anyone with a half brain know that you two (yourself and floyd) did this as a show. NOBODY wants yours or Floyd help! You both are irrelevant and non factors! So please you and floyd BACK OFF!! NOBODY CARES!! #JUSTICE4KJ… How about that!!

    • Team KJ !!!! says:

Leigh Touchton your credibility is a waste of time. Go crawl back under the rock which you came from.

    What conclusion is that???

  3. Tangela says:

The conclusion is the kids who contributed and no what happened are protected by their parents and their parents or not going to let them step forward for no $10,00 come on that sounds stupid and is an insult to the family and anyone who has some sense….. take that foolishness to another town because their still is no justice for KJ and murders on the loose……go to jail for #10,000 what a joke

  6. veona gibson says:

Rev.Rose is just angry because he is not getting any attention from the ones he put up on a high pedal. “Sharpten” And my thing is if it wasnt important enough to disclose of wat he thought was weird from Mr. Johnson. Then why now is it even being discuss now. He need back up stay out the media

  7. Team KJ !!!! says:

Leighton Touchton produce the materials & tape that you claim to have seen several months ago and then your voice would slightly be heard.

  8. Intelligentmind says:

Leigh Touchton yes what conclusion is that? All of the stuff you are saying is pretty irrelevant and holds no foundation. Now what I would like to know is….why was the tape edited from the gym? why are the times missing?

  9. Rhonda Wright says:

Leigh Touchton, are you insinuating that Kenneth Johnson doesn’t want a reward to be offered, because he(they) have his (their) own personal agenda? Just asking;not meaning to offend ANYONE. From what I have seen, they are pounding the pavement DAILY, whether here or away to ensure that all measures and efforts are taken to get justice…….You started a post and I don’t follow what you are saying-although I consider myself to be rational. PLEASE clarify?

  10. NA says:

You would think they would use all the help and resources that became available to them. This was all a show, and I believe the article, so they could raise more money. If it were my child, I would take the help of the donated reward money if it could help in the case of my “murdered” son. I think this was a tragic accident and it is turned in to a fame seeking, racist fueled situation! If murder were the case I believe there would be proof form the GBI that would have came to light. Funny how the only “evidence” is a private autopsy done months and months later! hmmm. People are blind!!

  11. Jim says:

“The conclusion would have been, as you know, that the family wanted to drag this matter out so they can raise money. I can’t understand why Mr. Johnson was so angry and adamant in not wanting me to offer the reward…” – Rev Floyd Rose

With the lack of evidence I easily came to a conclusion long ago.

  12. j. west says:

Drop 100,000 grand on the reward and you’ll see the deference

  13. Roberta says:

GOD KNOWS ALL AND SEES ALL AND NO AMOUNT OF MONEY CAN PAY HIM OFF. THERE WILL BE JUSTICE FOR KJ.

  14. Na says:

It could just mean he was alone and noone really knows because it was not murder it was an accicident this I base my opinion that if in fact someone was with him and kne what happened it would already have come to light with all this research everyone has done but turned up nothing….
