| July 17, 2013

money all overThere is a $200 reward being offered for anyone who has information on the person or persons responsible for vandalizing a local historical marker. A monument dedicated to Mary Turner, a woman who was lynched in 1918, was found with five bullet holes in it this week. The sign is located near the Little River.

Mary Turner Project Coordinator and VSU professor Dr. Mark George says the vandalism doesn’t come as a shock, saying that race ‘is still a big issue in this community.’

That sign has been up since 2010- anyone with information on who shot up the sign is asked to call the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
